EMBROIDERED BADGES MADE TO ORDER

The largest part of the initial cost of producing embroidered badges is the computer programme that is needed to run the machine that makes them. The final results are determined mainly by the skill that goes into this programme...as even the most sophisticated machine can only turn out what the computer programme tells it to do. However, the expert who writes the programme has only the artwork that is given to him, so in the end, it is really due to the artist who draws up the design. There is much more to a stitched badge than just a coloured drawing......stitches need careful planning in their direction to give shape and action to the design. Lettering needs to be legible....and the overall layout needs to be pleasing. Most of this we always do on a sketch pad... by hand,...before turning to the computer so we get it looking right..........like an artist laying out his canvas. Our art department is good........and so our badges are excellent!
This initial programme cost is the same whether one badge or 1000 badges are to be made from it....so small quantities, one-offs or samples are not feasible. The minimum first order quantity therefore is 50 off, and any later re-orders have to be at least 50 off. The inclusive price quoted below for the first 50 off INCLUDES all our artwork preparation time and the computer programme cost, and is the TOTAL cost for 50 badges. We then give a ‘balance off’ price. This is the price for each badge ordered over 50 with the initial order, enabling you to calculate the total cost of your badges. This EACH price will also be the price for any future re-orders of 50 or more...allowing for any time lapse increases!. Lesser quantities can be done at a surcharge. Remember this, the computer programme is paid for in the ‘first 50’ price, and incidentally, is your property and copyright. All future re-orders are the cheaper ‘balance off’ price...a considerable saving once your first batch costs are covered.

To calculate the cost of your design, first measure it, add the maximum width to the maximum height, and HALVE it. This is the SIZE to look under .i.e. 4 inches x 2 inches = 6 inches: look under the 3 inch column. (The size makes a considerable difference to the price because of the increase in the number of stitches on which the price is based. A 2" square badge is actually FOUR times the size of a 1" square badge so the increase in stitch count is times 4, not times 2 !....hence the seemingly illogical increases in price as the sizes creep up. Mathematicians among you will understand!)
Then count the number of colours you require, not counting the background material, or the merrow border (the stitched border round the outer edge) which can be any colour without counting as one of the colours.
Is the whole badge covered by stitching, or does the background material show through in areas? Try and visualise how much of the total area is ACTUALLY covered by the stitching as a percentage, and look in the appropriate column. (If about half, for example, look in the 60% column) If in doubt, allow for more than you think, and then you will be pleased that they turn out cheaper than you allowed for.
The prices in the following tables, are, at the time of printing (see date at top of list) the maximum prices. No two badges are exactly alike and cost exactly the same...and the final cost cannot be exactly known until the job is finished and the stitch count known. It is our policy to charge the finished job at its eventual costing....so if this comes out cheaper than the quote..then we will charge you cheaper! Our old customers all know this! The difference may only be coppers per badge, but every little helps in Club finances...we know. Turn round for badges is 6 to 8 weeks depending on work in hand. It takes approximately 2 weeks of this to draw up and get the computer programme made...and then 4 to 6 weeks to reach its turn. We try to keep everyone in their order, no queue jumping, so we cannot promise a quicker service..sorry!
We also manufacture the standard R.A.F and A.T.C crested squadron badges at a special standard fixed price. For the 4½ inch high queens (or kings) crown RAF badge this is only £190 for the first 50 off, and £1.50p each after that.
For a standard 4 inch crested ATC badge, it is £160 for the initial 50 and £1.30p each after that. Both RAF and ATC are normally supplied shaped and overlocked included in this price.

Work will commence on receipt of order and half deposit.

For 8 to 14 colours the machine has to be reset.. entailing another setting up charge.. so for every additional colour over 7, please add 15% of the‘ each’ price from the 1 - 3 colour charge columns. REPEAT orders of 50 off will be at the ‘each’ price... but allow for a possible slight price increase over a long time lapse, please!!...

Extras..
Special threads: allow up to 20% extra to the total cost for metallic gold or silver thread.
Special backings: add 10% extra to the total cost for a felt background.
Add 1p per inch for an iron-on backing or 2p for a self-adhesive backing.
Special shapes: for any shape that is irregular, i.e. that is not circular, oval or a straight sided geometrical shape,...please allow for up to 15% extra on the total cost to cover special hand cutting and finishing ...Again we stress.. these are maximum extra costs...we will charge only what it eventually costs out at.
Velcro: Hook-side Velcro can be sewn to the back of the badge. Normal shapes 15p per inch, and special shaped badges for 25p per inch. If your require the loop side to match supplied also, then 5p per inch extra normal and 12p per inch extra shaped badges.
A couple of tips when designing your badge...remember the background material does not count as a colour...NEITHER does the merrowing (overlocking) round the edge. You can have the merrowing ANY colour extra to the chosen thread colours. Try not to have the lettering too small...embroidery cannot be as clear and precise as printing when doing lettering or fine lines,...so try and make lettering as large as you can. We will always advise or adjust as we think necessary for the best result. If you want something copied EXACTLY... do say so... if on the other hand you would like it improved...DO SAY SO! Drawings do not need to be colour separated ...but the clearer the better, of course, and if you want specific colours... attach a sample cutting of the colour and we will match it as near as possible. when you say ‘gold’ please say whether you want gold METALLIC thread... or just a rich golden YELLOW thread.

NOTE: There are NO hidden extras just plus the postage to you.

These prices are for our multihead machine. We have single-head machines that do one badge at a time. This, however, is very labour intensive......and where a multihead run of 50 can be less than £1 each.........setting up and doing one badge on the single-head will cost at least £5 (plust he computer programme if there isn't one already.)
